In every thriving community, the spiritual vitality of the church depends on the strength of its youth. Yet, while young people often have boundless passion and energy, many lack the structured biblical grounding and mentorship skills needed to guide their peers through the questions, pressures, and temptations of modern life. Young people listen most attentively to other young people. When an emerging leader is equipped with sound doctrine, relational empathy, and practical teaching tools, an entire peer group can be anchored in Christ. local churches across the district, introducing them to “Book 1,” a foundational discipleship study guide centered on the Recognizing this vital need, Here Is Life recently convened an intensive leadership training workshop for youth leaders from theme of “Knowing God.”
The Core Curriculum: Unpacking “Book 1”
Spiritual maturity begins with theology—not dry intellectual theories, but a vibrant, personal knowledge of who God is. During the workshop, participants completed an in-depth study of the core modules in “Book 1.” Together, the leaders examined:
• The Character and Attributes of God: Exploring God’s holiness, faithfulness, grace, and sovereignty in everyday life.
• The Authority of Scripture: Understanding how to handle God’s Word faithfully without taking verses out of context.
• Practical Christian Living: Connecting biblical truth directly to the dilemmas youth face—such as integrity, family relationships, peer pressure, and vocational purpose.
You cannot lead others somewhere you have not traveled yourself. Before a young leader can teach others about God, they must first delight in knowing Him personally.
Beyond Lectures: Mastering Interactive Teaching
Too often, youth group meetings default to one-way lectures where young people sit quietly without truly processing what they hear. A major focus of this training was revolutionizing teaching methodology.
Facilitators guided the young leaders through hands-on simulations, teaching them how to foster dynamic, participatory Bible study environments:
• Open-Ended Questioning: Learning how to ask thought-provoking questions that encourage quiet members to share their
perspectives.
• Facilitating Group Dialogue: Managing group dynamics, encouraging diverse voices, and guiding conversations back to the
text of Scripture.
• Fostering a Safe, Caring Community: Establishing a culture of confidentiality and mutual prayer, where youth feel safe
opening up about their struggles.
Character Precedes Leadership
Throughout the training, facilitators repeatedly stressed that effective leadership is an overflow of personal devotion. Academic mastery of a textbook means little without an active prayer life and daily submission to Christ.
Participants spent dedicated time in personal reflection, examining their own spiritual habits. Each leader committed to consistent daily Bible reading, personal repentance, and seeking God’s guidance as spiritual shepherds among their peers.
The Power of Spiritual Multiplication
The true measure of this training program will not be found in the seminar room, but in the rural parishes and village chapels where these young leaders now return.
By training twenty or thirty committed youth leaders, the ripple effect extends to hundreds of teenagers. Each leader will facilitate a weekly Bible study circle of 10 to 15 peers. In those circles, friendships will be deepened, questions will be
answered, and faith will take firm root.
Building for the Generations to Come
