Rebuilding the Hope of Refugees in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement:

On 23rd and 24th April 2024, Here Is Life through the ICCMP project, contacted 2 days community dialogue in Bidibidi refugee settlement, Zone 4 main and Zone 4 Annex. This dialogue aims to address the most pressing issues affecting the community, geared towards creating a peaceful coexistence and seeking viable solutions.

Identifying and Addressing Key Issues

The dialogue seeks to address challenges that have been affecting the refugee community, including:

  1. Stary animals destroying: The issue of stray animals causing damage to crops has been a growing concern, affecting both refugees and the host community.
  2. Water Scarcity for Domestic Use: The unavailability of water for domestic use has created hardships for community members, requiring urgent attention and resolution.
  3. Land Use Disputes: Instances of land grabbing and allocation of the same piece of land to multiple individuals have led to disputes and tensions within the refugee community.
  4. Theft Cases: Incidents of theft, particularly involving youth and new visitors, stealing items such as goats, food, and other properties, have been a cause for distress and insecurity.

Inclusive Participation and Collaboration

The dialogue was attended by a diverse range of stakeholders, including representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Local Council 3, landlords, women and youth representatives, security personnel, Refugee Welfare Councils (RWCs), as well as members from both the host community and refugee population.

Finding Solutions to problems

The participant collectively identified their mistakes and provided way forward to solve those problems in order to leave peacefully in their community again. The partners also provided their inputs and support to the community as they keep enforcing what they agreed on in the dialogue.

Commitment to Sustainable Progress

We remain dedicated to driving sustainable progress and fostering a community where challenges are met with collective efforts and where dialogue serves as a tool for positive change. We will continue to work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the outcomes of the dialogue translate into tangible actions and lasting solutions.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue on.
